Stopped in Salardu, Spain, five days ago for a major resupply. I've been trying to get smarter about carrying less food and resupplying more often, to keep my pack weight down.
I had to cross a remote section, needed to carry 5 to 6 days of food to get through.
I didn't bring a stove to save weight, so I've been cold-soaking oatmeal and couscous (breakfast and supper). The rest is for lunches and snacks. I forget what it's like to not be hungry.
The Mediterranean is getting closer step by step, but my knees are sore. After 500km and some 30,000 metres in accumulated elevation, I'm finally starting to get tired.
It took me two days to cross a beautiful section of Andorra.
I found a nice place to sleep last night, but the ground was very hard. A swim in that cold mountain lake was worth the lack of sleep.
I'm in L'Hospitalet-près-l'Andorre now, just inside France.
One last long section to hike, 194 km to the Mediterranean. But there are a couple high peaks still to come, and thunderstorms on the way.
I'm sorry I haven't been able to make videos work on here, but I posted some to my Instagram page, you should be able to see them there - including one I filmed last night about my food: https://www.instagram.com/ryanmurdock.writer/
Onwards again in the morning.
Few words more evocative than ‘resupply’ . Enjoying your walking diaries !
Phew! Glad to hear it…I was a bit worried….😬 And the couscous and oatmeal without
cooking is a great solution!
