It's been a tough section. I crossed the highest Cols of my route yesterday, several big ones in a row, including the Col Inferieur de Literole (2983m). A very long day of endless boulder fields, steep snow slopes and a chaotic granite wilderness.
In benasque now for a food resupply. Halfway across as of today.
In reply to a few questions…
My pack weighs around 8kg without food and water. About 12kg after a resupply. Water is plentiful in this middle section, so I'm just carrying a litre at a time, refilling as needed from streams. I have a small filter.
I didn't bring a stove or pot to cut weight for these big daily climbs. Just a plastic container. I'm cold soaking oatmeal in the mornings, and cold couscous at night. Nuts, chocolate and things like that during the day. Not so enjoyable, but I gorge on burgers when I pass a town, and get the odd omelette at mountain huts.
Headed into a remote stretch after the next few days. Looking forward to seeing what challenges that bit holds.
Are you walking alone every day or teaming up sometimes? I see 4 others ahead of you in one photo.
